India's attacks against Pakistan have come after more than two weeks after growing tensions to Indian PM Narendra Modi to forcefully retaliate against its neighbour following an Indian-controlled massacre of tourists in Kashmir.

In the month of March, militants engulfed the beautiful and picturesque mountainous area in Pahalgam which killed the lives of 25 Indian tourist in what was the most brutal attack against Indian civilians in the last few years. The attack immediately damaged already antagonistic relationship with New Delhi and Islamabad, with New Delhi swift to blame its neighbour.

Modi - a strong leader who has presented himself as the nation's protector and was elected last year to an unprecedented third term as the leader of the country - instantly pledged to pursue attackers "to the ends of the earth."

He is the leader of the nation with pride, a nationalistic and proud country who believes in its capacity to manage tough situations.

After the incident the aggressive and often jingoistic press immediately demanded blood.

"We want revenge" read the headline of one channel. "Bharat is battle ready," said another, in reference to India by its Sanskrit title.

The analysts say it was just an issue of time until Modi as well as his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took action with a vengeance.

Pakistani security sources say three of five Indian aircrafts it shot down included Rafale combat aircrafts -highly sought-after items from the Indian Air Force which were purchased a few years ago when New Delhi looked to beef its military.

CNN is not yet independently verified Pakistan's claims, and has contacted the Indian military and government to get their response.

Prior to this latest incident, India had 36 Rafale aircraft within the Air Force, purchasedfrom French manufacturer Dassault Aviation.

India and Pakistan two neighbours with a an extensive history of war and tensions, are now in a dangerous zone experts warn that Islamabad promising to take revenge against New Delhi's strike and the potential for tit-for-tat reactions escalating into an all-out conflict.

The operation on Wednesday inside Pakistan is the most extensive India has ever fought inside its neighbour ever since the war between India and Pakistan in 1971, which was the most significant conflict between the two nations.
